The classic red lip is one of those timeless looks that’s wearable no matter what season it is. Red is a power color – and the right red can make a serious statement. We all know NARS Dragon Girl looks great on Taylor Swift, but what red lippie works best on you? Proper shade selection can be tricky, so here are a few tricks to keep in mind during your next trip to Sephora.
Fair skin
Bright bluish reds (like MAC’s Russian Red) look beautiful on fair skinned gals with pink undertones. Bonus points: Bluer reds will also make your teeth look whiter! If you are fair, but your skin has a little more of a yellow undertone, stick to warmer shades in the brick red department.
Medium skin
If you are more olive complected, orangey reds are more likely to flatter you. Bright tangerine reds (like YSL Orange Indie) will look lovely, so don’t be afraid to go bright! If your skin is a little more golden than olive, opt for a pinker coral color instead of a true orange.
Dark skin
Burgundy and wine shades (like this one) look absolutely beautiful with deep skin tones. Cherry reds look universally flattering on both cool and warm dark skin tones as well! As Coco Chanel once said, “The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.” 😉
