Get the Look: Faux-Hawk Pompadour

The hair Gods blessed me when they booked celebrity stylist Mark Hasche down the hall from me at the Roosevelt in LA a couple weeks ago. I actually met Mark earlier this year through his business partner Erin Heit after falling in love with their product Beauty Bumps.

In addition to the bumps, Mark is an owner (along with his partner Peter) of the PeterMark Salon, one of Elle Magazine’s Top 100 Salons. Their celebrity clientele includes everyone from Paula Abdul to Jill Zarin. Basically, they’re a big deal, so I was stoked when Mark offered to do my hair for my night out in LA before BeautyCon. He gave me a faux-hawky pomp that was edgy and chic. It was perfect for my newly cropped locks since the length leaves me with limited styling options. Want to get the look too? Here is how he did it…

Tools:

  • Hairspray (Mark used Joico to keep my locks in place!)
  • Bobby Pins (I love these.)
  • Boar bristle teasing brush (This one is my favorite.)
  • Straightener

Steps:

  • Part out a section (from the front of your hairline back to the crown) and clip out of the way temporarily.
  • Smooth the hair on both sides of the head to the back, secure tightly with bobby pins and smooth with hairspray to remove flyaways.
  • Take small horizontal partings (about 1/4 inch) from the top section, pull each at an angle, spray at the root and tease back.
  • Let the teased hair fall over the pinned side sections, hiding the pins.
  • Add additional spray/pins as needed to keep the shape in place.
  • Hit your ends with a flat iron if needed to finish the look.
