Grammy Inspired Glamour #IRL with CoverGirl, Olay, Pantene and Secret

On the Grammy’s Red Carpet last weekend, Katy Perry told Ryan Seacrest, “Everybody asks me, ‘Oh, when did you feel like you made it?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, when CoverGirl called me up and said, ‘Hey, do you want to be a CoverGirl?'”

Obviously, I loved hearing this, especially since it involves two of my favorite icons in the beauty industry – CoverGirl and Katy Perry. I think she is stunning and I totally wish I looked like her #IRL (in real life!). Since that’s not exactly possible, I’ll have to just use her killer fashion sense and fun beauty looks for inspiration.

I think she always looks awesome, whether she’s wearing a Kimono or a crazy Smurf dress, but the look that sticks out in my mind the most is the makeup she wore on the Grammy’s red carpet a few years back: ed9ae49c8d3d11e39e23126c93c6dca1_7

I love her “go big or go home” attitude that she embraces in her music and also in her daring fashion/beauty choices. This bold color palette made a definite statement. The hues are pulled from hints of the tones found in the iridescent rhinestones on her dress without being overtly matchy-matchy. I love to channel Katy’s red carpet beauty boldness regardless of the kind of event I’m going to. I really think it’s all in the way you carry yourself. If you own it, you can totally wear this color combo anywhere.

Here are the steps I took to get this look:

  • I started by cleansing my hair with Pantene Pro-V’s Damage Detox Deep Cleanse Purifying Shampoo. It removes buildup from chemically treated hair to promote natural shine – exactly what I need to channel Katy’s shiny locks! I then blew my hair out and added a few soft curls with a curling iron.
  • To prep my skin before makeup application I applied Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream. This moisturizing, perfecting cream instantly brightens and smoothes skin, while reducing the appearance of dark spots.
  • To sculpt my cheekbones, I used CoverGirl Instant Cheekbones in Purely Plum. This compact contains three coordinated shades that make creating natural looking contour a snap.
  • For the eyeshadow, I applied a thin layer of Ice Queen CoverGirl Bombshell Shineshadow all over my lid from lashline to brow bone. It multitasks as an eyeshadow primer while reflective pigments intensify the shimmer of the eyeshadows I layered over it. I used a sweep of CoverGirl’s Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing Purple on the top lid, and the same shadow in Lime Light underneath my lower lash line.
  • To really open up the eye and add drama, I used CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara. This entirely new mascara experience, unlike any other two-step offering available, features a first-of-its-kind Boost System that has two brushes and two formulas for mega volume and dramatic intensity. Step one loads on the volume with a big brush and mega-volumizing formula to thicken lashes. Step two seals the look with a dark, smooth finish.
  • To create a pink pout like Katy’s, I used CoverGirl lipstick in Bombshell Explosion topped with a swipe of CoverGirl Smoochies Lip Balm in C U L8 R, to give it a little bit of a frosted effect.
  • Finally, I applied Secret Destinations Collection deodorant in Hawaii Citrus Breeze – my new favorite scent! It keeps me feeling (and smelling!) fabulous – especially at special events when I’m running around greeting a bunch of people!

My New Voices of Beauty Trip Recap

As you may have heard, I was selected as one of Lucky Magazine and Procter & Gamble’s New Voices of Beauty! This means I’m an honorary blogger for awesome P&G brands including COVERGIRL, Olay, Pantene and Secret! I heard the official word in December and have been looking forward to this adventure ever since.

Thanks to the over 10,000 votes you all contributed to help me win this contest, I got to travel back to my favorite city (I’m sure by now you all know which one that is!) for a weekend full of exclusive New Voices of Beauty experiences including meetings with Lucky editors and P&G Beauty representatives, and a “Day in the Life of the New Voices of Beauty” video shoot.

I arrived Saturday to the BEAUTIFUL Dream Downtown hotel in Manhattan.

I was welcomed with a Lucky bag packed with awesome goodies that I will be blogging about soon.

There were literally martinis and mascara waiting for me when I got there.

And free Champagne, too!

(Check out the view from my window, will ya?!)

The next morning I went out to brunch with the ladies of Lucky and P&G, along with my fellow NVBs Naty, Nikki, and Amy. We ate at The Mercer Kitchen in Soho and were greeted at the table with a directory of the best places to shop in the area! After brunch, it only made sense to go shopping.

We hit Topshop for a little personal shopping session. And more Champagne.

Monday was our big “Day in the Life” video shoot. We kicked off the styling process with nails by Miss Pop, hair by Kristen Ruggiero, and makeup by Stefanie Syat of Pre-Dame.

Stefanie and Miss Pop both pulled bright colors from my statement necklace for accent colors to use in my beauty look. Stefanie lined my eyes with a beautiful cobalt blue (my favorite!) and my nails were a bright juicy lime green – Essie polish in “The More the Merrier.” Loooved it!

When we were all ready we started shooting the video – some in the hotel and some around the city.

It was FREEZING, but I had a lot of fun shooting with the guys from Spreadhouse.

We then relocated to the Lucky offices (in my beloved Conde Nast building) for a Q&A session with Lucky Senior Beauty Editor, Maura Lynch. She was a doll and we learned a lot of fun beauty tips from her. I won’t spoil too much more – the video should be ready in a few weeks!

It was an incredibly memorable experience and I still have not adjusted to being back home. In addition to my New York trip, I’ll also receive a year’s worth of P&G Beauty products, access to an exciting selection of VIP events, and exclusive content opportunities for my blog. Keep an eye out – my first official NVB post will be on the blog next week! Thanks again to all of my readers for your support. I could not have done this without you. Hugs and martinis for all! 🙂

I’m a “New Voices of Beauty” Finalist!

newvoicescap3crop You guys, I’m so excited I can barely breathe.

I mentioned in my LuckyFABB post that I was one of 30 bloggers selected to audition for the New Voices of  Beauty Contest while I was in New York for the conference. Well, I just heard from team Lucky that I have been selected as a finalist!  Whaaaat!

The 8 finalists were chosen by Lucky Magazine and P&G Beauty based on our on-camera interviews we filmed in the Lucky casting office. (If you would like to see me stumble through my answers, the vid is up on the Lucky site!)

After my whirlwind experience with Allure this year, I thought it wasn’t possible for something like this to come along again. Guess I was wrong! It is seriously blowing my mind that I’m in another contest with another fabulous publication that I adore… and also the largest consumer beauty company, like, ever. (In case you aren’t familiar, P&G practically owns the world… including some of the best beauty brands like COVERGIRL, Olay, Pantene, and Secret.)

The 8 of us will be whittled down to 4 winners that will be selected on January 6th based on a combination of public votes and a Lucky and P&G Beauty Judging Panel.

The 4 winning bloggers will receive:

  • Title of “New Voices of Beauty Honorary Blogger”
  • Year’s supply of COVERGIRL, Olay, Pantene, and Secret product (If I win, you better believe I will be hosting giveaways for you guys with some of those goodies!)
  • Feature in a Lucky-produced “A Day in the Life of the New Voices of Beauty” Video filmed in New York City
  • Recognition on P&G Beauty Media Platforms like StyleUnited by

Of course, this honor will also be paired with serious beauty cred and opportunities out the wazoo.

I seriously could not do any of this without my awesome readers, so thank you guys SO MUCH for all of your support. And thank you in advance for the continued support because I’m going to need your help again! Only 4 bloggers will earn the New Voices of Beauty title, so I need your votes to stay in the game! Voting continues through December 6th and I would love you forever if you would visit this link and vote. Sharing is also much appreciated!

Keeping with tradition, I just have to pair a cocktail with this news. I hope you will all join me in a drink today to celebrate! I present to you, The Lucky Rita. Cheers! 😉
