Wear This/Drink That: National Margarita Day

What a wonderful week it is that chases National Drink Wine Day (Feb. 18th) with National Margarita Day (Feb. 22nd). Translation: I cheated on my diet at least twice this week. National Martini Day doesn’t happen until June, so we’re in the clear for a little bit (and I’ll be back to water and Nutrisystem soon). But first, let’s celebrate National Margarita Day! I love me some crazy flavored margaritas, but I think today calls for a skinny twist on the classic. (Also due in part to the guilt of me cheating on my diet. Ha!) Read on for my favorite recipes courtesy of my friends at Patrón. Simple, salty, satisfying. I prefer mine on the rocks with salt on the rim, but if you want to serve it straight or blend it I won’t hate you for it. Cheers!

senorita-margarita-shower-gel Wear This: Senorita Margarita 3-in-1

I have mentioned Philosophy before, but I’m the biggest fan of their cocktail scented collection (surprise!). The ultra-rich Senorita Margarita 3-in-1-Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath smells like limey, salty amazingness. The crisp scent is so refreshing and I love that this can be used for my other favorite pastime, bubble baths.

1/2 oz Patrón Citrónge

1 1/2 oz Fresh sweet ‘n sour (lime-lemon-agave mix)

Wear This/Drink That: Watermelon

I realize National Watermelon Day may not be circled on everyone’s calendar… but I’ll make any excuse for a watermelon beauty and booze pairing. Cheers! ;)

Tarte Watermelon1 Wear This: Tarte True Love Cheek Stain in Sheer Watermelon

This beautiful water based gel tint provides a natural flush with natural ingredients, too! It is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates. The stain utilizes a proprietary blend of superfruits (goji, açaí, maracuja, acerola, and pomegranate) to deliver maximum benefits to the skin while creating a soft pink glow. It’s refreshing and healthy, just like a juicy watermelon!

Drink That: Salty Watermelon Margarita

Traditionally, Margaritas are crafted with Tequila, but when UV Vodka reached out to me with this unique spin on the classic featuring summer’s fav fruit, I did not complain! So good.

1 part UV Salty Watermelon

1 part triple sec

1 splash of lime juice

Blend with ice and serve.

Happy National Watermelon Day!

Wear This/Drink That: Coconut Cream

Tonight’s beauty and booze pairing features one of my favorite summertime flavors: Coconut! Get your skin in glowing shape with one of my favorite body scrubs so you can hit the beach with some Malibu. Cheers to coconut indulgence!

Wear This/Drink That: Mad Men Edition

In honor of tonight’s season premiere of AMC’s Mad Men, Estee Lauder launched a simple, but beautiful limited edition batch of products inspired by the show. The period drama is one of my absolute favorite shows, not only because of the killer acting and brilliant writing (…and my massive crush on Jon Hamm), but also because the costuming and makeup design is spot on. I just love watching the changes in trends and years reflect in their faces. I also love watching the cocktails they shake up throughout the show.

Wear This: Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection

Estee Lauder captured the essence of the show perfectly with this collection, the second Mad Men inspired cosmetic line by the company, with a modern take on shades worn by sixties sirens. Even the packaging pays homage to the golden days, with classic Estee Lauder sixties-era replica cosmetic cases. madmenestee2 The coordinating Mad Men trio includes See Thru Blush in Light Show – a sheer rosy pink powder blush ($50, presumably pricier because of the awesome case), Rich Lipstick in Pinkadelic – a creamy warm medium pink lipstick with a satin finish ($30), and Nail Lacquer in Pink Paisley – a powdery baby pink polish ($24). Very Joan Halloway. Pair it with a cat eye and some soft neutrals on your lids and you’re good to go!

Drink That: Pink Squirrel

This throwback cocktail compliments the Lauder pink sixties vibe perfectly. thepinksquirrelThis particular recipe comes straight from the Mad Men Cocktail Guide, one of my favorite sources to use when I’m cocktailing in my kitchen. Cheers!

¾ oz crème de noyaux
¾ oz crème de cacao
½ oz vodka
1 oz fresh cream

Pour over ice. Stir and serve in martini glass.

Wear This/Drink That: Marilyn Monroe Edition

Let’s get real, vodka and lipstick are way better friends than diamonds. So, to celebrate a girl’s real besties (and yesterday’s launch of Three Olives’ Marilyn Monroe Strawberry vodka), I present this week’s beauty and cocktail pairing. Cheers!

MarilynMonroe-Lipstick-LoveGoddess-72Wear This: Love Goddess

One of my favorites from the MAC Marilyn Monroe collection, Love Goddess is a mid-tone pinkish red with a satin finish. I learned its origin during a recent class with Gregory Arlt (who I ADORED, by the way), MAC Makeup Director and designer of the collection. While spilling his red carpet beauty secrets, Arlt mentioned that this lip treat was inspired by a custom color he blended for Marilyn-esque knockout Christina Hendricks. The universally flattering strawberry shade looks best while sipping a matching martini. ;)

MarilynDrink That: The Marilyn

Three Olives’ latest flavor sensation combines the taste of strawberries with a hint of cream, in honor of the Hollywood icon. They also released an assortment of Marilyn inspired recipes including this sweet martini, aptly named The Marilyn:

2 parts Three Olives Marilyn Monroe Vodka

2 parts cranberry juice

Splash of half and half

Mix all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a strawberry.

Wear This/Drink That: Russian Red

New recurring feature alert! In the spirit of Martinis and Mascara, I’m going to spotlight a tried-and-true favorite beauty product of mine… along with a cocktail recipe inspired by that product, just for kicks. Since “Beauty and Booze” just didn’t sound right, I’m calling this one “Wear This/Drink That.” Cheers!

Wear This: Russian Red lipstick by MAC

One of those questions I’m often asked is “What’s the best red lipstick?” Trust me, I’ve tested just about every lipstick on the market, and the closest I’ve come to the perfect red is the cult classic Russian Red. It’s an intense bluish red (think Gwen Stefani on the red carpet), but not overly cool to the point where warm toned gals can’t pull it off. Russian Red’s highly pigmented formula glides on smooth stays put for hours with a matte finish. The universally flattering lipcolor also counteracts teeth yellowing and helps create the illusion of extra pearly whites.

Drink That: Russian Red Martini

1 oz Stoli Cranberry Vodka

1/2 oz Cointreau

3 oz POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice

Combine ingredients in a shaker and shake over ice.

Strain and serve straight up (in a chilled  martini glass, of course!)

*Please drink (and wear red lipstick) responsibly.

Fun Fact: Cointreau cover girl Dita von Teese is also an avid Russian Red fan.
