Get Taryn Manning’s Retro Waves

19C52F52-D78B-42B5-8743-8BB60A30429B

Pennsatucky sure cleans up well! Orange is the New Black star Taryn Manning shined on the Emmys red carpet earlier this week. Celeb hairstylist (and founder of the awesome Hair Room Service) Michael Duenas styled her up with classic retro waves that I fell in love with. He also used some of my favorite products to create this effect! Here are the steps he used to create her look:

  • Starting on damp hair add 2 golf ball sizes of OSiS+ Grip and a few spritz of OSiS+ Session Label Flexible Hold Hairspray to the roots.
  • Blow dry with a Denman brush or vent brush, focusing on adding volume at the scalp.
  • Take a deep side parting, just past the mid of the eyebrow.
  • On the heavy side of the head, start at the top, take an inch thick section from the crown to the hairline, split that section in to 1-inch sections.
  • Using a 1Ž/2 inch curling iron, curl the 1-inch sections towards the face and pin until they are cool.
  • Work in this same way, from behind the ear forward, curling all the hair and pinning.
  • On the lighter side of the head, take 1-inch thick sections from just behind the ear, holding your iron horizontal curl the entire section at once away from the face, work from the parting down till you have curled all the hair.
  • Working on the back of the head, take 2-inch sections in a brick-lay pattern and curl each section, vertically in different directions.
  • Using a wide toothcomb, comb out the curls in the front, forming them into a wave.
  • Brush out the rest of the head with your fingers and touch up with a Mason Pearson.
  • Finish the look with OSiS+ Session Label Strong Hold Hairspray.

Get Allison Williams’ Emmy Beauty Look (and peek inside her clutch!)

66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals Like many of you out there, I live for awards season. I also live for finding out the beauty products that help make our favorite celebs look so darn pretty on the red carpet.

It’s no secret that I have an extreme crush on Brian Williams (he waved at me once – true story), so naturally I adore his daughter too. I thought she killed it last night at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Her glowing Emmy look was thanks in part to celeb makeup artist Pati Dubroff (and also thanks in part to the killer bone structure she received from her dad.) I got the scoop from Pati about the products and techniques she used to achieve this beautiful look.

“Allison had just returned from her summer vacation so her skin was sun-kissed,” she said. “We decided to go with a soft look. I dubbed this ‘pretty in pink with a flash’ – the pink is on the lid, the cheek and the lip, while the flash is a dash of bright yellow gold on the inner corner of her eyes which complimented the bright yellow grosgrain belt on her dress.”

Pati prepped the skin with tarte clean slate timeless smoothing primer in the t-zone to eliminate the need for powder. She then used a small amount of tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour full coverage foundation SPF 15 in light medium honey.

“I wanted the sheer coverage so Allison’s freckles could show through,” said Pati.

She finished the skin using tarte park avenue princess bronzer to amp up the tan and tarte Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in fearless on the apples of the cheeks for a pinky flush.

She defined her brows with tarte the brow architect brow shaper, liner and definer in medium-tan.

“I created the structured eyes with Pati Dubroff dream palette using ochre and raw to give matte structure and a soft tone in the crease and under the eye,” said Pati.

She then applied tarte smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in golden beige in the center of the lid for a peachy pink base followed by Chanel Illusion D’ombre in Abstraction on top. On the inner corner of the eyes, Pati added a flash of NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Corcovado for a flash of bright yellow. At the base of the lash line Pati used tarte lights, camera, lashes precision longwear liquid eyeliner - with a touch of a light flick at the outer corner. She completed Allison’s eyes by coating the lashes in tarte lights, camera, lashes 4-in-1 mascara.

Pati created a soft but well-structured lip using tarte  LipSurgence matte lip tint in lucky with a touch of tarte Amazonian butter lipstick in golden pink layered on top.

Allison’s Gambattista Valli Couture sleeveless dress meant her body was on display too. Sometimes it’s easy to focus on the face and forget the rest of the skin, but Pati made sure she was glowing from head to toe!

“It’s just as important to make sure that the skin on her body looks as just as flawless as the skin on her face,” said Pati. “I used Jergens BB Body Skin Perfecting Cream in Medium to give a subtle radiant sheen and illuminate Allison’s skin.”

Allison packed her clutch full of the essentials to keep her look fresh all night! She selected tarte not so slick oil-absorbing blotting papers and the two tarte lippies Pati applied to keep on hand. Smart girl!

My Fav Beauty Looks from the MTV Movie Awards (and how to get them!)

Jared Leto MTV Movie Awards

Sorry, it’s kind of a tradition now that I kick off all of my red carpet beauty roundups with a photo of Jared Leto. Couldn’t help it. ;)

Lots of stars shone on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet last night, but my favs were Jessica Alba’s hair and Lupita Nyong’o's face. So. Pretty. As usual, I got the scoop on the products used to get both looks!

Not surprising, Lupita was all done up in Lancôme after recently announcing her status as an ambassadress (sweet gig, right?) for the brand.

Lupita-Nyongo-MTV-Movie-Awards-2014

Celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose gave the recently appointed ambassadress “sparkly, disco-inspired eyes” for the red carpet. Barose wanted to complement Nyong’o’s colorful dress with a silver metallic eye. Here are the products he used:

Lips

Now, let’s get to Jessica Alba’s hair! Here’s how it looked last night:

Celebrity hairstylist Davey Newkirk gave Jessica some glossy, simple loose waves for the 2014 MTV Movie awards. Very playful and total modern Hollywood glam.

TEMPTU is the go-to makeup for some of the biggest names in music, movies, and television as well as some of the top names in fashion. Celebs from Lady Gaga to Scarlett Johansson regularly have their skin brushed on to perfection with TEMPTU makeup. And since the TEMPTU airbrush makeup kits are SO EASY, you can get the celeb look at home too! TEMPTU’s Airbrush Makeup Kit and patented AIRpod makeup is the first easy-to-use, professional-quality, home airbrush makeup system.

The AIRpod Foundation is a luxurious, water-resistant foundation inspired by TEMPTU’s iconic pro formula for luminous results. It is ultra lightweight and versatile for sheer to full coverage. I LOVE it. I also adore the AIRpod Blush, a highly-pigmented buildable blush. My favorite of the pods is the AIRpod Highlighter which provides a soft illumination to areas where the sun would naturally hit for instant radiance. These universally flattering highlighter hues can also be used on eyes. I love to spray the highlighter all over my eye area to create a shimmery base for my eye makeup as well!

See below for my how-to on how to use this foolproof airbrush…

So simple and quick, right? I’m also thrilled that I got my Temptu airbrush just in time for the holiday party season! It is perfect for easy-but-beautiful holiday makeup. The system creates such a flawless finish that you can let your airbrushed skin be the star of your holiday look.

temptuholidaypunchup After my ultra-glam base was in place, I just added a few finishing touches to complete the easiest holiday look ever. I really wanted my newly flawless skin to do the talking, so I added just a few enhancements to punch it up:

-Em Michelle Phan Arched Defining Brow Liner
-LORAC eyeshadow in Pearl
-MAC Eyeliner in Mountain Air
-YSL Babydoll Mascara
-MAC lipstick in RiRi Woo (no liner required because the blush served as a primer!)
