Celebrating My 29th Birthday with a #BringTheShimmer Bucket List

Viniq Cocktail Citrus Mist resize 2

Yay for birthdays!

I just turned 29 on Thursday and I’ve been reflecting a lot as I kick off my last year in my twenties. The old me would have told you that I’m turning 21 again (for the 8th time), but I’m finally embracing my age.

I realize I’m not getting any younger, so I’ve decided to make the rest of my life, the best of my life – starting with my new and improved bucket list for my 29th year! Read on for the deets on how I plan to end my twenties with a bang.

Katie’s 2016 Bucket List:

  • Bring the shimmer to me and my friend’s year with an epic girls trip!
  • Dye my hair a crazy fantasy color
  • Write a novel
  • Spend more time in Central Park
  • Run a marathon
  • Be more adventurous
  • Visit all the restaurants featured in Sex and the City
  • Go on a cruise
  • Donate to charity
  • Swim with dolphins
  • Stress way less
  • Participate in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade
  • Make time to catch up with old friends
  • Be someone’s mentor
  • Create the perfect signature cocktail

As you can tell, I’ve got a lot of living to go do, but first, let me add a checkmark next to “create the perfect signature cocktail.” To celebrate my birthday, I decided to create a cocktail recipe that really portrayed my personality. Behold, the Citrus Mist, featuring my fav shimmery liqueur – Viniq! Just like me, it’s sweet, shimmery, simple and creative.

Citrus Mist

  • 2 oz. Viniq Original®
  • 1 oz. New Amsterdam Vodka
  • 2 oz. Barefoot Bubbly Moscato
  • Lime squeeze

Build ingredients in a champagne flute.

Ready to join me in bringing the shimmer this year? I know as I continue to check off my bucket list items I’ll be sharing my pics on social using #BringTheShimmer. Check out Viniq.com for more cocktail inspiration to celebrate your goals and checks off your bucket list this year!

Martinis and Mascara Blogiversary Celebration Cocktail: The Ruby Drop

Viniq Cocktails

Time flies when you’re having fun!

I seriously can’t believe it’s been four entire years now since I first launched Martinis and Mascara.

Thank you all so much for reading and following in this journey of mine! I could not do this without my amazing followers and friends, so cheers to all of you reading this who have made this possible for me. I’m raising a glass to you today!

To further commemorate this momentous occasion, I propose a toast with one of my favorite martinis – the Ruby Drop! This shimmering red ‘tini features my fav new liqueur, Viniq. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to kick off the Martinis and Mascara blogiversary celebration.

This Ruby Drop tastes like red berries with a hint of citrus that finishes smooth and makes for a perfect combination after a long day of workin’ it. Or in my case, 4 years of workin’ it. 😉

Won’t you join me in raising a glass? Read on below for details on how to whip up your own!

Ruby Drop

  • 1.5 oz. Viniq Ruby
  • 1.5 oz. New Amsterdam® Citron Vodka
  • .75 oz. lemon juice
  • .5 oz. triple sec

Pour vodka, lemon, and triple sec into a shaker, shake with ice. Strain into a martini glass and enjoy.

This delish cocktail recipe marks the first of many blogiversary posts over the next week, so stay tuned for much more celebrating. In the meantime, cheers!

Girl Scout Cookie and Wine Pairings

The season is here! And no, I’m not talking about Fashion Week season this time. It’s Girl Scout cookie season, folks.

Naturally, I love pairing Girl Scout cookies with wine. (Samoas and bubbles for the win!)

My friends at Mode do too, so they put together this handy video that illustrates the best wines to pair with your Girl Scout cookies.

Watch and learn! This is important. 😉

Wear This/Drink That: Ruby Romance

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day, lovelies!

In honor of this momentous occasion, I’m serving up another sweet pairing on the blog. As you all know, I’m a proud member of the #ViniqSquad and am thrilled to share some more delicious drink ideas featuring this unique shimmery liqueur.

One of the things I love about Viniq is that is tastes amazing by itself, so mixing up a cocktail with it is incredibly easy. The “Ruby Romance” is effortless and so appropriate for Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re sipping these over Galentine’s Day brunch or pre-gaming before heading out for date night, this sweet drink is a must for this weekend’s festivities.

Per usual, I’ve whipped up a makeup look that pairs perfectly with this romantic concoction. Read on for deets on how to create both!

Wear This: Glitter Lips

Viniq Ruby Inspired lip step by step

Inspired by the glimmering red Viniq Ruby, this statement making lip takes the classic red lip one step further. Start by creating a solid base with your fav red lipstick. (I always do foundation all over my lips followed by powder before adding any lip product for extra staying power!) For this particular look, a liquid lippie makes it a little easier. Next apply loose red glitter directly to the lip. If you press the glitter into the liquid lipstick before it dries, it won’t budge. If you want a little extra staying power, you can seal the deal with a lip sealing product. Voila!

Drink That: Ruby Romance

  • 1 oz. Viniq® Ruby Shimmery Liqueur
  • Fill with Strawberry Moscato
  • Simple Syrup
  • Edible Glitter Dust or Colored Sugar

Dip rim of Champagne flute in simple syrup (water works too, in a pinch!) and then lightly in glitter/sugar. Pour 1 oz Viniq Ruby into bottom of a Champagne flute. Fill with to the top with your fav Moscato (I used Barefoot). Ta-da!

Olay Fresh Outlast Inspired Cocktails

I love a good beauty and cocktail pairing – which is why I was tickled pink when I saw Olay’s presentation at the P&G Beauty Digital Studio event last week!

To celebrate the latest addition to the award-winning Olay Fresh Outlast collection, Olay teamed up with amazing lifestyle guru Maureen Petrosky (LOVE her) to concoct cocktail recipes inspired by the premium scented body washes.

The lucky influencers (myself included) in attendance at the event got to sample “mocktail” versions of these luscious sips, but of course, I had to track down the real deal recipes to feature on the blog. The drinks are DELICIOUS and super refreshing if you’re looking for something to perk you up – very similar to the effect of Olay’s energizing body washes!

My fav? The new Fresh Outlast Energizing Lime and White Tea body wash (and margarita). Read on for the scoop and definitely give Maureen’s recipes a try. You won’t be disappointed!

Energizing Lime & White Tea Margarita

  • 3/4 cup freshly squeeze lime juice
  • 1/2 cup lime simple syrup
  • 1 cup silver tequila
  • 1 cup white tea, brewed and chilled
  • Lime wedges for garnish
  • Salt for rim

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine lime juice, simple syrup, tequila, and tea. Stir until evenly combined. Pour into tall glasses and garnish with lime.

Cooling White Strawberry & Mint Smash

  • 4 mint leaves
  • Juice of 1 lime wedge
  • 3 fresh white strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
  • 2 ounces silver rum
  • Splash of club soda
  • Small fresh mint sprig for garnish
  • Pineapple wedge for garnish

In a tall glass, combine the lime juice, mint leaves, and sliced strawberries. Muddle with the back of a spoon. Fill the glass with ice and add the rum and pineapple juice. Top with club soda to fill glass. Garnish with strawberry, pineapple, and mint.

Soothing Orchid & Black Currant Martini

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1/2 ounce creme de cassis
  • 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bittters
  • Bourbon soaked cherry
  • Orchid for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the bourbon, creme de cassis, sweet vermouth and bitters. Shake until chilled. Place cherry into the “v” of a martini glass. Strain the cocktail over the top, garnish with an orchid and serve.
