My Fav Beauty Looks from the MTV Movie Awards (and how to get them!)

Jared Leto MTV Movie Awards

Sorry, it’s kind of a tradition now that I kick off all of my red carpet beauty roundups with a photo of Jared Leto. Couldn’t help it. ;)

Lots of stars shone on the MTV Movie Awards red carpet last night, but my favs were Jessica Alba’s hair and Lupita Nyong’o's face. So. Pretty. As usual, I got the scoop on the products used to get both looks!

Not surprising, Lupita was all done up in Lancôme after recently announcing her status as an ambassadress (sweet gig, right?) for the brand.

Celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose gave the recently appointed ambassadress “sparkly, disco-inspired eyes” for the red carpet. Barose wanted to complement Nyong’o’s colorful dress with a silver metallic eye. Here are the products he used:

Now, let’s get to Jessica Alba’s hair! Here’s how it looked last night:

Celebrity hairstylist Davey Newkirk gave Jessica some glossy, simple loose waves for the 2014 MTV Movie awards. Very playful and total modern Hollywood glam.

Here are the steps he used to create the look:

Take the Beauty Bumps Challenge

You guys might remember me gushing over Beauty Bumps GROW back in my long hair days. I stopped taking them when I was in “I’m chopping off my hair to be stylish mode,” but now my hair is growing out and I’m ready to go long again.

I know lobs (long bobs) are in, but I’m looking to fast forward past the stage where it’s sitting on my shoulders and flipping out in weird ways. Grass is always greener, right? ;)

Needless to say, I’m back on the bumps!

Beauty Bumps have taken the beauty supplement concept to the next level, promoting overall health by including ingredients like immune-boosting Zinc and stress-fighting Ashwaganda. In addition to boasting an impressive blend of vitamins, the chewable supplements are also mint flavored and dusted with 23K edible gold for an added element of luxury. What’s not to love? It’s edgier and more fun than your basic hair pill – and effective too!

But don’t just take my word for it – everyone from other beauty bloggers like the amazing Shannon Ray (winner of the first Allure Beauty Blogger Awards) to celebs like Real Housewife Jennifer Gimenez are doing bumps.

Here’s a breakdown of the key ingredients and their benefits:

Tocomin – A breakthrough ingredient that has a US Patent for hair growth.

Biotin – Makes your hair grow faster.

Silica – Helps strengthen hair, makes it less likely for hair to become brittle or develop split ends, prevents hair loss and creates shinier strands.

Resveratrol – A powerful anti-oxidant that supports anti-aging and improves circulation.

Ashwaganda – Combats stress, anxiety and exhaustion caused by physical and mental strain.

23K Gold – Because you’re worth it!

I already know that they work, but I’m excited to see the effects of taking them long term. It truly is a great supplement, so I’m looking forward to feeling healthier in addition to having fierce hair. I’ll be checking in periodically with you all to share my progress.

So, who else wants to take the Beauty Bumps challenge?! Visit to order a bag and get your bump on with me!

Coachella Beauty Musts from Celebrity Makeup Artist Charlotte Tilbury

Festival season is upon us! If you are headed out to Coachella this weekend, take these tips from the amazing Charlotte Tilbury. Charlotte is an international makeup artist who has spent decades spent creating unsurpassed beauty looks on famous faces like Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, and Rihanna. I am totally with her on all of these recommendations and I’m thrilled that she shared them with me so I can share them with you guys!

The desert setting means dewy, creamy textures work well, rather than powder-based products which can slip off in the heat. These tips from Charlotte will keep you looking gorgeous from Coachella to Governor’s Ball and everywhere in between (like SunFest for the girls in my neck of the woods!). Read on and prepare to get glammed up festival style:

  • Coachella is all about fringed crop-tops, and leg-baring denim cut-offs; so make like Gisele and use a moisturizing, gleam-getting, gorgeous illuminator cream to highlight your arms, legs, and décolletage. For the face, mix a high SPF with a light-reflecting illuminator like Tom Ford’s Summer Skin Illuminator for glowing protection. Build up the sheen on temples, cheeks and nose to mimic where the sun would light up the face.
  • Create a seductive smoky eye in seconds with a crème eye shadow pen – you can keep it in your shoulder bag. Sweep over the eyelids, smudging outwards and upwards with your finger to create a winged look. For added summer sexiness, smudge underneath the lower lash line too.
  • Add a pop of color to bronzed, freckled skin by using a striking stain on the lips – experiment with eye-catching coral, berry and plum tones of Becca’s Beach Tint. Cheat a smattering of freckles by painting them in using a soft, taupe eyeliner.
  • Lipstick is your best friend. Vamp up your ethereal maxi-dress with a crimson pout and blend a little color onto the apples of the cheeks for an effortlessly pretty, dewy glow.
  • Keep a little stash of pointed Q-tips, some face-wipes (festival is the only acceptable occasion to use these!) and a mini pot of moisturizer in your emergency kit. A Q-tip can help fix a poised feline flick on even the wildest of dance floors.

Get the Gatsby Look for Halloween with CoverGirl and Vidal Sassoon Pro Series

Following the recent release of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, this look featuring COVERGIRL and the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series is perfectly on point for Halloween. Channel your inner Daisy Buchanan with these steps by celeb makeup artists Erica Whelan and Emily Kate Warren. Add a flapper dress and sequined headpiece and you’re all set for the festivities on Thursday!

Here’s how to get the look:

Spritz a two-inch section of hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Hairspray.  Using a one-inch barrel curling iron, curl the section away from your face.

Gently slide curl off the iron so it holds the shape of the barrel, and pin. Repeat over entire head. Let curls set for at least 30 minutes.

While curls set, prep skin with moisturizer, and then apply COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation with a foundation brush for even coverage. Set with pressed powder.

Dust cheekbones with bronzer for definition, then apply rosy-pink blush to the apples of cheeks.

Use bronzer and pressed powder to create a neutral smoky eye. Sweep pressed powder over the entire lid and blend bronzer in the crease.

Apply COVERGIRL Ink It! By Perfect Point Plus in Black eyeliner to upper and lower lashlines, extending the line slightly beyond the outer corners of eyes. Coat top and bottom lashes generously with mascara.

Finish with a red lipstick like COVERGIRL LipPerfection Lip Color in Hot and layer with COVERGIRL Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm in Tweet Me for a glossy look. (Click here to see how I feel about Tweet Me!)

Release curls and brush to create subtle waves. Smooth flyaways with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extreme SMOOTH Combing Crème.

Ta-da! I love everything about the look they created, don’t you? Makes me want to drink like it’s the 1920′s and bust out in The Charleston. A little party never killed noboooddyyy

Stay tuned for more Halloween tutorials coming up soon on Martinis and Mascara! :)

Clairol Classic Collection Makeover

My mom has always been supportive of my beauty adventures. She was there to lend her face when I needed practice in makeup school and her hair when I went to cosmetology school. So, of course she was the obvious choice for my model for this project with Clairol!

With the Clairol Professional Classic Collection it’s totally easy to get beautiful rich color in no time. The permanent liquid hair color delivers the 4 signs of healthy-looking color: Deep conditioning, reflective shine, multidimensional shades and long-lasting results.

The product claims all proved to be true when I freshened up my Mom’s dark brown color treated hair with the Clairol Professional Classic Collection’s  “Classic Sunblonde Brown” (6GN).

I selected this particular neutral golden shade because I knew it would provide the best gray coverage while warming up the tone. It was a totally seamless at home color experience that took minimal effort!

The formula created a rich chestnut brown just as I had hoped, not too drastically different from her original color, but in much healthier looking condition. The revamped color definitely has more dimension, complete gray coverage, and a beautiful glossy finish. Click here to see how I did it.

I also gave my mom a fresh makeup application to match her new hair! Her foundation, highlight and shading was all done with my favorite RCMA palette. I swept on Lorac blush in Rose, lined her lids with Salma Hayek Nuance gel eyeliner, and applied Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara. I finished the look with my trusty Ardell #53 false lashes and a fall-friendly berry lip (from Mom’s favorite Lauren Hutton Face Disc).

And now… the big reveal!

Get the Look: Faux-Hawk Pompadour

The hair Gods blessed me when they booked celebrity stylist Mark Hasche down the hall from me at the Roosevelt in LA a couple weeks ago. I actually met Mark earlier this year through his business partner Erin Heit after falling in love with their product Beauty Bumps.

In addition to the bumps, Mark is an owner (along with his partner Peter) of the PeterMark Salon, one of Elle Magazine’s Top 100 Salons. Their celebrity clientele includes everyone from Paula Abdul to Jill Zarin. Basically, they’re a big deal, so I was stoked when Mark offered to do my hair for my night out in LA before BeautyCon. He gave me a faux-hawky pomp that was edgy and chic. It was perfect for my newly cropped locks since the length leaves me with limited styling options. Want to get the look too? Here is how he did it…

  • Hairspray (Mark used Joico to keep my locks in place!)
  • Bobby Pins (I love these.)
  • Boar bristle teasing brush (This one is my favorite.)
  • Straightener

  • Part out a section (from the front of your hairline back to the crown) and clip out of the way temporarily.
  • Smooth the hair on both sides of the head to the back, secure tightly with bobby pins and smooth with hairspray to remove flyaways.
  • Take small horizontal partings (about 1/4 inch) from the top section, pull each at an angle, spray at the root and tease back.
  • Let the teased hair fall over the pinned side sections, hiding the pins.
  • Add additional spray/pins as needed to keep the shape in place.
  • Hit your ends with a flat iron if needed to finish the look.

Ta-da! :)
